What is reflexology?

  • “Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques, such as thumb and finger-walking, hook and backup and rotating-on-a-point, applied to specific reflex areas predominantly on the feet and hands. These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body’s efforts to function optimally. The effectiveness of reflexology is recognized worldwide by various national health institutions and the public at large as a distinct complementary practice within the holistic health field.”

  • Our Special Feet

We have more than 7,000 nerve endings in each of our feet!!!! Isn’t that amazing!! Given that, they are an incredibley sensitive and receptive area to not only take in calming stimuli, but to send similar signaling to the brain, spinal cord and organs. As with Acupressure and Acupuncture, Reflexology operates from a shared belief that our body is made up of energy channels, also known as meridians or zones, that run from head to toe throughout the body. By touching, stimulating and applying pressure to the feet, we not only increase circulation, we promote the movement and improved flow of energy, Qi, life forcehowever you wish to call it. These subtle shifts in energy assist the body in returning to a state of peace and balance, whereby it can more easily reset and heal.

  • Facial Reflexology

Similar to foot reflexology, facial reflexology uses pressure, stroking and walking movements across the face, ears and even scalp to promote relaxation throughout the entire body, increasing movement of oxygen rich blood and lymph. Facial reflexology has been known to relieve a wide range of issues including headaches, migraines, sinus congestion, jaw tension and sometimes even Bell’s palsy. For some, regular facial reflexology treatments can help reduce wrinkles and leave the skin looking refreshed and glowing.

As Reflexologists, we do not claim to cure or heal anything specific. We facilitate healing by helping the body return to an optimal state, so that it can heal itself. Reflexology is typically NOT viewed by practitioners as a foot massage, however many speak about it as such. It is an intentional use of specific movements and pressure applied to relex areas that correspond to various organs, glands and body areas, versus relaxation movements alone.
